Yesterday, I competed in the Best of Italian Style Fashion Competition.  Ideally, I was going to burn up that runway in my dazzling blue Baiastice gown and sizzling hot black bikini.  I was going to turn heads, inspire others to pursue their passion for Fashion, and show everyone that yes, red heads rock the catwalk. 

 But some things just don't turn out as we hope....despite all of our planning, our dedication, and late hours spent doing our hair and makeup...sometimes, the fates are against us and ready to rain on our parade.

As the competition began, I stood nervously backstage in the wings with my dear friend Caylla Winnikow and a host of other beauties.  All of us sharing in the spirit and comraderie of Fashion.  As the beautiful and poised, AnneMarie Perenti graced the podium to announce the start of the competition, and all of us girls lined up in our positions, I suddenly found myself at the top of the runway stairs, in front of an audience that was slightly confused, but very well-humored. 

I looked around and suddenly realized that yes, the villain Lag had scooped me up from the backstage, and tossed me mischeviously into the spotlight before it was my time.  Thank goodness I was clothed and my hair had come with me.  Nevertheless, my face was as crimson red as my fingernail polish, and what made matters worse was that I was frozen!  I had crashed and could not move.

Quickly rebooting and immediately TP'ng myself backstage, I stood in line again praying that the rest of the show would go as planned.  But fate had another game in store for me. As AnneMarie called my name, I stepped onto the runway stairs and approached the judges podium, but again I was frozen, and again I crashed. I could not move, could not pose, nothing.  In my growing frustration, I almost considered quitting and going home altogether. But there was a little voice inside me that said, "Don't give up, show everyone that when the going gets tough, a red head fights back and keeps on truckin."

And that is what I did.  Despite the gazillion crashes, despite not being able to do my poses, I walked (aka floated) down that runway to the best of my ability.  I did not give up. My friends had come out to cheer me on, I could not let them down.  So instead of throwing in the towel, I continued to smile and even giggled a few times. And you know what? I had a blast, despite my disastrous performance.

Though I surely will not place in this competition, and all my hard work in preparing for the show went down the tubes, I did learn some important things....

No matter what happens, keep on going, don't give up.  Go with the punches.  Have a sense of humor.  Enjoy the ride.  And when all else fails, and Lag steals the show from you, just pick your head up and remember, tomorrow is another day.
