Several months back, I felt I was on the right track to becoming a successful SL Model. The choice I made to attend a prominent modeling school was the best decision I could have made. It was both useful and enjoyable. The courses were prepared and delivered by the school’s founder and her principal trainer, both bringing authentic RL and SL knowledge to the school experience. The training was informative and useful; the insight was enjoyable and practical.

Among the highlights of the course was the opportunity to hear unscripted comments and opinions from someone with a real track record in the industry. Questions from students often resulted in candid remarks, which I found truly enlightening. Education extends far beyond any textbook or curriculum; learning from experience is unquestionably more valuable.

After graduation, I made the decision to attend another modeling school. I wanted to encounter and discover additional insight from experienced modeling professionals. I chose another established academy with a solid reputation. It’s trainers were seasoned pros active in the fashion community. As with my first school experience, the class size was small, allowing for a fair amount of personal attention and instruction. However, unlike my first school, I found the structure of the training to be a bit haphazard and inconsistent. Although not literally repetitive, the courses were similar to those I had completed. But once again, the greatest value to me was the genuine insight imparted by those that prevail and flourish in the crowded, competitive world of modeling in SL.

I’m actually considering attending yet another school. Postgraduate study is not uncommon in RL, why should SL be any different? Yes, I know this isn’t rocket science; I’m not pursuing a degree in engineering or architecture. However, I am serious about my chosen profession. I believe my modeling school experiences are good investments and are providing me with a solid foundation on which to build my career.

If you’re thinking of becoming a model, my advice is: go to school. The right school experience offers prospective models the opportunity to associate and network with authentic professionals as well as receive practical instruction. The modeling community in SL is teeming with “wanna-be’s”, consider your training as the first step towards legitimacy. You’re about to enter a vibrant and diverse society where who you know is often just as important as what you know. A good modeling school provides you with both; you’ll meet influential people active in the profession and learn from their experiences.
