One thing I understand is that you can't do everything on your own. Especially in SL! Its good to have mentors and people who support and help you out.
I was shown the following tutorial sets which I find to be invaluable.

The t-shirt creation one is alone is worth its weight in gold! I'm still trying to wrap my head around alpha channels, and the guide on there as helped a lot.
I seem to do ok, and then oops! I upload something into SL and its a mess LMAO!
